Dr. Vita Martez, is the NSERC Industrial Research Chair for Colleges (IRCC) in Oil Sands In-Situ Steam Generation, Department of Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS), Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Calgary. She leads the IRCC program with an overall goal to conduct applied research and find solutions to steam-water issues in SAGD, CSS and similar thermal recovery processes, produced water and blowdown, treatment and recycle, including GHGA prevention and reduction strategies associated with tube fouling in once-through steam-generators (OTSGs) which are central to in-situ oilsands steam operations. The outcome of this applied research is expected to contribute to best-in-class industry practices in order to enhance energy and water-recycle efficiency and significantly reduce environmental impacts through the pragmatic integration of environmental and economical sustainability strategies for industry adoption and uptake. Vita holds a Ph. D in environmental engineering from the University of Calgary and brings over 18 years of industrial and award-winning applied-research experience in clean technologies associated with Industrial water and waste-water treatment, Mobile desalination packaged pilots for drinking water to disaster stricken or remote communities, Fuel cells for power generation, Novel energy storage systems, and IOT based sensors for GHG emissions measurement and management.
