Farrukh Akram is a petroleum engineer with IBM leading development of cutting edge solutions for the upstream oil and gas industry using state-of-the-art machine learning, cognitive computing and data analytics technologies. Farrukh spent majority of his career with Schlumberger in number of roles from engineering consulting to product portfolio management. He then joined Accenture to lead the global upstream analytics practice and recently with IBM. Farrukh has 1 granted patent for SAGD completions design and 2 pending patents on engineering based analytics for reservoir management. He has written a number of papers in the areas of reservoir modeling, management and simulation. He is a published author and, has presented and chaired technical sessions in multiple conferences globally. He has received numerous excellence and engineering awards throughout his career. He is an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) where he has been recognized for his contributions to the SPE while serving in the board of directors for Calgary section and is currently technical content reviewer for the SPE Reservoir Engineering and Evaluation magazine. He is a Registered Professional Engineer with the province of Alberta. He holds a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Petroleum Engineering.
